Event Details

This one day course is an opportunity for Derbyshire Recovery Partnership to share with you many of the practices developed by its workforce when working with families. It focuses on adult members of families, where their loved ones are using drugs or alcohol and sometimes both. It is also an opportunity to share experiences and good practice with other professionals working with families.


The aim of this course is to provide those working with families to develop skills in order to effectively intervene where drug and/or alcohol misuse is problematic.

By the end of the training learners will:

  • Be able to explore and practice a range of tools and techniques that are used by the DRP workforce when working with families
  • Be to assess the severity of drug and alcohol problems
  • Recognise the substantial impact of drugs and alcohol use on families
  • Understand how drug and alcohol use within families may cause risk to other family members including children
  • To have increased confidence to practice family focused interventions


*Please note: It is a requirement of attending this course that you have completed either the Alcohol Awareness & Brief Interventions or the Substance Misuse 1 course. Please ensure you have completed either course first before booking

Booking your course

Once you have chosen the date of the course you would like to attend, you will be asked to complete your contact information. Please fill this in as accurately as possible to reserve your place. You will then receive an email confirming this. If you do not receive this, please get in touch via phone 01246 206514 or email  . Many of our training courses are free to front line professionals who work with the public who live in Derbyshire, however this excludes Derby City. Details of which courses are free and which are chargeable will be made clear on our website before booking.


If you need to cancel your place please do so as soon as possible. A substitute may be enrolled in your place if you are unable to attend provided we are informed of this so that the correct booking form can be completed. If you cancel your place within 2 working days of the course (without substituting it) or fail to inform us you will not be attending we reserve the right to charge an administration fee.

Derbyshire Alcohol Advice Service will use the contact and participant details you provide during the registration process to provide you with further details regarding this Training Course. We will send you and evaluation request approx 3 months post training. We may also include you on our mailing list, which we use to contact you from time to time with information on our other activities and events. You can unsubscribe from the mailing list at any time. We will not provide your details to a third party without your prior consent.
